Pectoral Implants

Enhancement of the male chest can be achieved through the insertion of pectoral implants.* These are solid silicone rubber implants which are placed immediately under the pectoralis major muscles through small armpit incisions to offer improved size, bulk and definition of the male chest. Unlike silicone gel breast implants, pectoral implants cannot leak, are much stronger and feel like muscle at rest.

Who Should Get Pectoral Implants?

Dr. Dahan will evaluate and determine whether you are a good candidate for pectoral implants. Ideal candidates for pectoral implants are men who have an underdeveloped chest which is resistant to growth despite regular chest muscle exercise. Men with well-developed chest muscles can achieve a larger and more defined chest as well. Other candidates include men or women with pectus excavatum (sunken chest) or Poland’s Syndrome (absent pectoral muscle). By inserting a pectoral implant, Dr. Dahan can increase the size and projection of your pectoralis major muscle. Dr. Dahan will show you the different pectoral implants available and recommend the size and shape of the implant needed to achieve your goals.

Surgery

This procedure is performed under general anesthesia as a same-day surgery and takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour. A small incision is made in the axilla (armpit) and a pocket is made between the pectoralis major muscle and the rib cage. In some cases, an endoscope or surgical camera is used to visualize the pocket and inspect for any bleeding. Unlike female breast implant surgery, the lower attachments of the pectoralis major muscle are left intact to hold the implant in place resulting in less pain and swelling. The solid silicone pectoral implant is gently inserted through the incision and placed in the anatomical subpectoral pocket providing a natural look and feel. A multilayer closure is performed to reapproximate the muscle and skin layers resulting in secure placement of the implant and minimal scar. A compression vest or wrap is applied for comfort and drains are rarely needed since there is minimal bleeding or swelling with this operation.

"I wish I could give him more than 5 stars but that’s the maximum I can do. I’m in love with the staff and the doctor. I’ve felt nothing but important and taken care of. They are all amazing and so compassionate! Definitely beyond amazing!"

After Pectoral Implant Surgery: What Should I Expect?

The recovery is quite rapid after pectoral implant surgery as there is minimal discomfort.* Patients are instructed to refrain from strenuous use or exercise of the pectoralis major muscles for 4-6 weeks after surgery to allow for the best healing. Over the next few weeks and months, the implants will settle revealing the final result. The axillary scar will fade and become inconspicuous over time. Some of the potential complications include asymmetry, fluid collection, discomfort and rarely infection. Asymmetry may also be related to the lower rib attachments of the pectoralis major muscles which are commonly at different levels on each side.

Pectoral implant surgery or pectoral augmentation using solid silicone implants is a very rewarding procedure that can help patients achieve their desired look.* The male patient may choose between minimal, moderate or significant pectoral enhancement based on the implant size, thickness and shape. Continued chest muscle exercise after healing is completed will further enhance the outcome but should be performed in moderation. Realistic goals, expectations and compliance with postoperative instructions will ensure a smooth recovery and lead to the best results.*
