Liquid Facelift: Do I Need A Facelift?

Many patients come to my office for a facelift consultation, thinking it might be time for them to get a facelift. Four components of the facial structure change as one ages: the skin, muscle, bone, and fat. Loss of elasticity in the skin and soft tissues, loss of volume, resorption of the bone, and gravity are all signs of aging.

A facelift does not solve all of the problems of aging such as age spots and surface texture changes, as well as fat loss and bone loss. A variety of techniques are available to help with the aging process.

What Is A Liquid Facelift?

A liquid facelift involves the use of dermal fillers and neuromodulators to provide many of the same results that can be achieved with a surgical facelift. A liquid facelift can:

  • Reduce wrinkles, creases, lines, and folds.
  • Gently lift facial features.
  • Restore natural, curved facial contour.
  • Provide a more rested, energetic appearance.
What Are The Benefits Of A Liquid Facelift?

As mentioned above, a liquid facelift can achieve many of the results of a surgical facelift, but without the lengthy recovery time and possible surgical problems. We’ve all seen plenty of celebrities with botched facelift surgeries, and those changes are permanent.

With a liquid facelift, Dr. Dahan can adjust the fillers used to the patient’s needs. Even after the initial session, he can make adjustments according to your unique goals. Surgical facelifts can look unnatural and overly tight. Liquid facelifts simply return the volume to areas, or they relax muscles that create wrinkles; they don’t stretch the skin.

These procedures involve very low risk and are quite satisfying, making the patient look instantly younger and more rejuvenated. They cost far less than a surgical facelift, as well. Of course, this is mitigated by the fact that each filler and modulator has a shorter lifespan than surgery.

How A Liquid Facelift Or Lunchtime Facelift Is Done:

After an examination, our team will draw up a treatment plan designed specifically for signs of aging and one's personal goals. We will use one or a combination of our temporary fillers, such as hyaluronic acid-based JUVEDERM® and VOLUMA®. BOTOX® is often used in conjunction with fillers to relax facial muscles that contribute to wrinkles and furrows. Injecting fillers at varying depths to fill creases creates a more youthful contour and appearance. Depending on the number of injection sites and the injectables used, treatment can take as little as 30 minutes. JUVÉDERM® fills lips and creases, fills fine lines and thinner tissues, and VOLUMA®adds volume to the cheek area.

What To Expect After A Liquid Facelift?

Injectable lunchtime facelift results are usually visible instantly. Some of the initial plumpings may be due to overfilling or swelling. It is common for multiple injection sites, but swelling and bruising may be experienced the first few days after treatment.

To minimize swelling, patients leave with a pack of ice and are advised not to exercise for the first few hours to prevent an increase in heart rate or blood pressure. Patients should avoid vitamin E, anti-inflammatories, herbal supplements, and other medications that promote bruising.

Will I see The Results of My Liquid Facelift Immediately?

Dermal fillers such as Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma provide instant results as soon as they are injected. Botox typically takes about four days to relax the muscles creating crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead creases.

How Many Sessions Will I Need For A Liquid Facelift?

These are single-session treatments. During your consultation, Dr. Dahan can discuss with you the areas you’d like to address, and then he can plan out the proper filler or neuromodulator for the particular area. For instance, volume loss due to decreased collagen production can flatten the cheeks. Juvéderm Voluma is formulated specifically to return the volume to the cheeks. This could be an area you’d like to target. During your liquid facelift, Dr. Dahan will combine dermal fillers with Botox to rejuvenate your face.

Of course, dermal fillers and Botox are not permanent, and their duration can vary. So, at some point, you could need a touchup for one area but not yet another.

Are There Side Effects With A Liquid Facelift?

The injectables used by Dr. Dahan for his liquid facelifts have all been approved by the FDA. Each has been used across the globe for over a decade (almost two decades for Botox), and they have proven to be safe and very effective for returning volume to areas and for relaxing wrinkles.

The typical side effects with all injectables are slight swelling and redness at the injection sites. This usually resolves in a few hours. Botox can sometimes cause a slight headache for up to 24 hours after injection, but this runs its course. The main potential side effect is that Botox can relax an unintended muscle, creating issues such as a droopy eyelid. That’s why you need to only trust a liquid facelift to an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Dahan. His knowledge of facial anatomy and his experience with all of these injectables ensures you’ll be satisfied with your results.

How Long Does A Liquid Facelift Last?

The duration of your liquid facelift depends on which injectables Dr. Dahan has used. The placement also plays a role in duration. Because different products have different lifespans before the body absorbs them, touch-up procedures can be necessary to maintain your liquid facelift before the longest-lasting products are absorbed by the body.

Here are a few timelines:

  • Botox — 3 to 6 months.
  • Juvéderm — up to one year.
  • Juvéderm Voluma — up to two years.
Are Liquid Facelifts Painful?

When Dr. Dahan injects Botox, he does so with a very fine needle and the neuromodulator is not injected to great depth, so patients typically don’t feel the need for any topical numbing. Fillers such as Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma are injected more deeply into the base of the wrinkle, crease, or area of volume loss. For those areas, we first apply a topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable.

There isn’t any residual pain with a liquid facelift, and there isn’t any recovery. You certainly cannot say that with a surgical facelift.
