Liposuction In Reno, NV

We have been taught that, if we eat well and exercise regularly, we can expect our body to align with the ideal shape we envision. This isn’t always how it works. Often, troublesome areas persist despite our healthy efforts. For such instances, liposuction presents an excellent opportunity to feel much more confident and satisfied with our appearance.

Call (775) 826-4477 today if you wish to learn more about liposuction. Dr. Phillip E. Dahan can answer any questions you have, and can help you determine whether you are a candidate for the procedure.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a minimally invasive fat removal surgery that Dr. Dahan performs to improve your figure and ultimately help you achieve your dream body.* Excessive or disproportionate fat deposits on your body can detract from your appearance and make you feel or look unhealthy and out of shape. Reno Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr. Dahan, can perform liposuction to effectively smooth away excess body fat to reveal your underlying muscle definition. He can help you achieve a more sculpted and shapely physique.*

Who Is A Candidate For Liposuction?

Liposuction is a good treatment option for many people who wish to refine their body. Generally, we look at three primary factors to determine who is a good candidate for the surgical removal of stubborn fatty tissue.

  • Good general health. The best candidates for liposuction enjoy both good physical and good emotional health. Studies indicate that the happiest patients are those who have a healthy body image before surgery and who want to remove fatty tissue to bring their physical shape into alignment with their ideal image of themselves.
  • Skin health. Liposuction is performed to remove excess fatty tissue. In instances where the skin is also very loose, this technique could worsen overall appearance. Ideal liposuction candidates have more resilient skin that is firm and will bounce back after surgery. Liposuction does not tighten skin nor does it eliminate cellulite. Patients with loose and saggy skin may elect to combine liposuction with abdominoplasty or another lift procedure.
  • Weight. Liposuction is intended for body contouring. It is not a weight loss tool and may not result in much of a change on the scale at all. Liposuction is all about how you look. Therefore, it is best to schedule treatment once you have reached the weight that is right for your frame.
Common Areas for Liposuction

Liposuction can help shape and sculpt nearly any body area. Common areas for liposuction include:

  • Chin and neck.
  • Chest.
  • Arms.
  • Belly.
  • Back.
  • Hips.
  • Buttocks.
  • Thighs and knees.
Benefits Of Liposuction

The primary benefit of liposuction is that the results of a well-performed surgery can help you feel more satisfied with your appearance. Liposuction can refine the contouring of the thighs, the midsection, the back, the chest, and even the neck or chin area. Removing stubborn fat with liposuction means an opportunity for long-term results that can be maintained with diet and exercise. The liposuction techniques that are utilized today are minimally invasive, requiring a relatively short recovery period of a week to ten days.

Liposuction Before & After

“Dr. Dahan and his staff are incredible. As a nurse I am very “picky” as to doctors and what I look for in them. From my initial consultation through recovery, Dr. Dahan and his staff responded quickly to any question, concern or problem I had. They far exceeded my expectations. Dr. Dahan is not only a fantastic doctor, but I would call him an artist. I am so pleased with the results of my procedures, I could not have dreamed how everything would come out! I feel incredible, my selfesteem is so much higher and people are constantly commenting on how much I smile now! It you are considering any type of reconstructive/body contouring procedure, I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Dahan and his unbelievably kind, caring and efficient office staff!” *

Liposuction Procedure

For the liposuction procedure, Dr. Dahan will make the areas you wish to improve with your input. Patients usually endure a local anesthesia method for the surgery. Dr. Dahan will then prepare the treatment area(s) with the tumescent technique. During tumescent liposuction, Dr. Dahan will inject the treatment area(s) with a solution containing saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine. The solution causes the tissue to firm, making it easier for Dr. Dahan to break up the fat cells and remove the excess fat. Fat is removed using a thin suction tube called a cannula. The tumescent technique minimizes blood loss due to the epinephrine constricting blood vessels. This minimally invasive procedure results in a reduction of fatty tissue, more proportionate body fat distribution, and improved body contours.*

Is Liposuction Painful?

Liposuction is performed with local and/or general anesthesia. Patients do not feel any pain during their procedure, but they may feel a sensation of pressure or movement as the small cannula is moved beneath the skin. After surgery, discomfort may include tenderness and soreness in the treatment area.

How Long Will The Results Of Liposuction Last?

Liposuction permanently removes stubborn fat cells. Therefore, it is possible to enjoy the results of treatment indefinitely. The caveat is that the area treated with liposuction is not relieved of all fat cells. Those that remain can expand if a healthy lifestyle is not maintained. Experts recommend a whole-food diet that includes ample amounts of vegetables, lean meats, and healthy fats for good metabolism.

Combining Liposuction With ThermiTight

Dr. Dahan commonly performs ThermiTight with liposuction on patients with undesirable subcutaneous fat and skin laxity. ThermiTight combined with liposuction can be performed on all of the areas mentioned above. Dr. Dahan performs this procedure in the office under local tumescent anesthesia. Gentle liposculpture is performed using fine cannulas to remove the unwanted fat, followed by skin tightening with the ThermiTight probe. Patients wear a compression garment for 3-6 weeks post-op. There is minimal downtime, bruising or discomfort.* Next to surgical excision of skin and fat, ThermiTight with liposuction will offer great results!*

Can Liposuction Be Combined With A Tummy Tuck?

Liposuction and abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck surgery, are often performed together to achieve more dramatic results. The liposuction aspect of this combination removes stubborn fat, while the tummy tuck tightens muscle tissue that has become lax over time due to weight fluctuations and aging.

Can Fat That Is Liposuctioned Be Redistributed Throughout The Body?

Fat transfer procedures have become increasingly popular in recent years. These techniques involve fat harvesting through liposuction and injections of purified fat cells into another area, such as the face or the buttocks. The concept of fat transfer into the buttocks or even the breasts sounds far simpler than it is. Complex vascular structure beneath the superficial tissue of the buttocks presents a risk of fat embolism, the entry of fat into a blood vessel and movement of that fat to another organ, such as the heart.

We currently perform fat injections for facial rejuvenation.

Liposuction Recovery

The length of recovery after liposuction will depend on how much fat was removed and the areas treated. In general, most patients begin walking and moving around within 24 hours after surgery.* Usually, patients return to work within a week.*

Following liposuction, patients may experience mild tenderness and discomfort that lasts for a few days. Bruising and swelling are common after the procedure, but usually doesn't last more than two weeks. Most normal activities and exercise may begin after two or three weeks post surgery. Patients should wear a compression garment for up to six weeks. By week six, post-operative swelling is mostly resolved and activity restrictions are lifted.

Will I Have Scars After Liposuction?

Scarring after liposuction is minimal because incisions resemble tiny nicks in the skin. Scarring is more extensive if liposuction is combined with abdominoplasty or other lift procedures. Once incisions have completely healed, topical solutions such as silicone strips may be applied to promote better wound healing.

Side Effects of Liposuction

The most common side effects of liposuction include bruising and swelling, both of which result from the movement of the cannula beneath superficial tissue. Some patients may experience a slight disruption in tissue sensation, feeling numbness or tingling as nerve endings reconnect after surgery.

Risks of liposuction are relatively uncommon and include poor tissue healing, asymmetry, lumps, and rippling or sagging in the skin. Infection and anesthesia risks also exist. It is important to obtain cosmetic procedures such as liposuction from a board-certified plastic surgeon who is familiar with anatomy and the safe and effective amount of fat removal possible for each body type.
