Dr. Dahan will evaluate and determine whether you are a good candidate for buttock implant augmentation surgery. The best candidates are female or male patients with a flat or deflated buttock who desire increased projection and fullness. Most of the patients tend to be thin with small buttocks.
Patients who have experienced massive weight loss may require a buttock lift or skin excision in addition to the insertion of an implant if there is significant loose skin present. Dr. Dahan will show you the different buttock implants available and recommend the best size, projection and shape of the implant needed to achieve your goals.
Buttock augmentation can be achieved through a few different methods:
Solid Silicone Buttock Implants
The most permanent procedure to increase the size of the buttock is with the use of a solid silicone implant.
Liposuction
Another technique used to enlarge the buttock involves liposuction from other areas with fat transfer or injection to the buttocks. The buttock implants tend to be permanent whereas fat transfer may lead to resorption (melting) of the injected fat and significant shrinkage over the next few months.*
Fat injections are also limited by the amount of fat that can be harvested and the greater amount of surgical time required compared to buttock implant surgery. Finally, very thin patients often do not have enough areas of fat that can be suctioned and used for buttock augmentation.
Just prior to the operation, Dr. Dahan will draw an outline of the implant on the buttock skin to determine the best placement and implant dimensions. With the patient asleep laying with their buttocks up, a small incision is made in the fold between the two buttocks and then a precise pocket is dissected under the gluteus maximus muscle.
The implants are then gently inserted through the midline incision and placed in the submuscular pockets on each side where they are fixed in place. A multilayer closure is performed reapproximating the muscle layer followed by the skin layer and a drain may be required to prevent the accumulation of fluid around the implant after surgery. A compressive dressing is applied to prevent tension on the incision and for comfort.
“I never thought I’d use a plastic surgeon, but at the age of 73, I was having major issues caused by prior surgeries. He came highly recommended, as well as having excellent reviews online. He definitely did not disappoint. Dr. Dahan is a highly-professional surgeon. He is also very personable, compassionate, and treats each of his patients as an individual with specific needs and desires, which is very difficult to find today. He promptly addressed all of my questions and fears. From consultation through post-operative appointments, Dr. Dahan is hands-on and totally involved in your care from start to finish.”
Dr. Dahan instructs his buttock implant patients to rest and sleep in the prone position for the first week after surgery. Exercise and strenuous activity should be avoided for the first 3-6 weeks and then a gradual return to normal activities is recommended. Wearing compression shorts may also help to reduce swelling and minimize discomfort during the healing period.
The buttocks will be swollen and tender for the first few weeks after surgery, however, this will not interfere with sitting on comfortable surfaces or using the toilet. The most common problem after buttock implant surgery is fluid accumulation around the implants. This can be easily removed with needle aspiration on one or more occasions until the fluid is gone. Infections are rare and can be treated with antibiotics. Rarely, implant removal and replacement of the implant at a later date may be necessary.
The postoperative recovery after buttock implant surgery tends to be longer and somewhat more difficult than with other plastic surgery procedures.* It is nearly impossible to avoid using the buttocks after surgery and therefore, requires a significant degree of compliance with Dr. Dahan’s postoperative instructions.
Although the buttock enhancement is seen immediately after surgery, It may take several months for the final results of buttock implant surgery to be fully appreciated. With time, the buttock implants will feel supple and comfortable like a natural part of the body similar to a well-toned muscle. There is a high satisfaction rate among patients who undergo buttock implant surgery for permanent enhancement of the gluteal region.
Brazilian Butt Lift and Buttock Implants are two different options when it comes to getting a buttock augmentation. A Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure wherein fat is suctioned from areas such as the hips, thighs, and back and injected into the buttocks. This is a form of body-contouring that enhances and improves the appearance of the buttocks.
However, there are many risks that come with choosing a Brazilian Butt Lift over Buttock Implants. One of the biggest risks for patients is how easy it is to accidentally inject fat into the muscle instead of the intended subcutaneous tissue. If this occurs, there is a high rate for complication. In some cases, death may be a possible outcome. Luckily, there are no rates of death found when injections are found in the subcutaneous plane.
While there are associated risks with butt implants, there are no life threatening complications. Overall, implants are often the safe and more tried and true option for buttock augmentation. Make sure to ask your doctor about the benefits and risks of any procedure you are considering going through.
